The
Sheep project is specifically designed to assist members in learning
how to care for a lamb. Members learn what to look for when
choosing a lamb. After a lamb is chosen, purchased and brought
back to the farm, members learn how to care for the lamb with regards
to what to feed it, how much, how to exercise their animal, how to
shear the coat, and how to best present their lamb to a potential
buyer. Members also learn body parts and health. The
project culminates in the members taking their lambs to the San Mateo
County Fair in June. Once there, members participate in
showmanship before a judge. Members also participate in the Fair
Auction to auction off their animal. Members get to see the full
circle of choosing, raising, showing and auctioning their lamb.
